All I want for Christmas is Ark!

Just a quick note to say Merry Christmas to all our Ark users! We've been working feverishly hard to release a new version of the Ark Media.

Today we have made Ark Media version 1.8.0b available for download. We've been listening to our users and have included a number of key performance enhancements which should benefit user's with large sub directories greatly.

This version includes the following fixes:

  • Major Core Performance Improvements to prevent browser crashes.
  • Fixed Prevention of Folder Switching When Using the Editor XTD Button.
  • Fixed Folder Loading Error Caused by Folder Names Containing Dots.
  • Added the Ability to Disable Views in Configuration.
  • Added the Ability to Disable Thumbnails.
  • Fixed Unnecessary Horizontal Scrollbars on the Page.

We have also addressed an issue with folders containing dots in their names which are now hidden due to causing errors on the page. We do intend to add support back for this naming convention in a future release however for now we are adopting the no-dot-in-name approach.

As you may or may not know our support will be closed for Christmas till Wednesday 4th of January where support services will resume as normal. With this in mind and the large amount of fixes in the new version of the Ark Media we have decided to make this version available as a pre-release till January (where it will be officially released). This allows all of our users to have access to the new fixes, whilst not prompting you of the new version in the Ark Extension Manager. By doing this we hope to lessen the burden on support over Christmas whilst allowing user's to "downgrade" to a working 1.7.3b version in the Ark Extension Manager should they encounter issues during our absence over the holiday season.

To download the pre release version of this release please go to "Downloads" when you log into the Ark Extensions website and download the "Pre Release" basic/professional version from here and install into your website as you would any other normal Joomla extension (through the extension manager in your administrator section).

That's it for now folks, so all that's left is to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from the Ark Team!
