I'm using EasyBlog Version 3.9.22295 and Ark Editor version 1.4RC2

Other editors work fine with EasyBlog but just have an issue with ARK Editor

Error comes up as follows:

An error has occurred.
1271 Illegal mix of collations for operation 'UNION' SQL=SELECT element AS name,params FROM jom_extensions WHERE folder = 'arkeditor' AND state = 1 UNION ( SELECT name,params FROM jom_ark_editor_plugins WHERE iscore = 1 AND published = 1)

Please let me know what the issue is... Kyle

If I assign the Ark Editor as default for editing in Easyblog and try to create a new blog then I get the error...

Actually I then had to totally uninstall Ark Editor (and all other ARK extensions...) because when I went to even create a new blog then it just came up with an error page AND a recently created Blog was simply innacessible from the FRONT END for my visitors!

Not sure what was happening but I simply had to uninstall everything in a panic as I can get lots of views on my blog quickly...

This issue is arising because your database, server, collation is not the same as the table collation. Joomla explict sets the collation for tables to UTF8.  And beacause your database collation is not set to this it means when you do a UNION SQL statement from a Joomla table such as the extensions table and a non Joomla table you will get this issue.

you can run a query like this to see what your server, database collation is set to:

SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'character_set%';
SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'collation%';

Hi Awills,

Thanks for your reply.

It's a bit more technical than I'm used to so I'd like to ask you a few things before I delve into "behind the scenes code...".

EasyBlog has only received minor increments (hence unlikely to be responsible for the change... ). I've moved from JCK Editor to ARK Editor and now I get the issue....

So I have 2 questions:

1 - What has changed from JCK to ARK that could cause this database collation issue?

2 - Is there a setting in ARK that I can change to remedy this without delving into MySql databases?

Thanks, Kyle.

Hi Kyle.

I am very sorry for the late reply.

Please do a fresh installation of the editor. Completely unistall the old version and then install the latsest version. This should solve the issue.

Kind Regards

Louisa
