While uploading some *.rar files it works perfect in Ark Media / Documents. But choosing another rar-file gives me "SyntaxError: Unexpected token N".

I´ve tried to replicate the error by using different files, different RAR compress programs but can´t see a pattern on which files that is working or not. All files in the screen dump i compressed with Winrar and one of them is rejected. Size of the files doesn´t matter it works both with 2mb as 8 mb files. And I dont use any strange chars in filenames...

Any idea?

Hi artofmedia,

Thank you for your ticket & the helpful screen shot. We have run some more tests with .rar packages and have not been able to reproduce any issues on Apache servers. However we have noticed that on Windows server's if you upload multiple files at once, Joomla can throw errors which cause the upload to display an error message. This is not localised to .rar files but all types so could you try the following on your system please:

  • Drag & drop multiple files into the drop area and click start upload to upload all at once. Keep trying this process till error is thrown, then refresh the page. Did the file that had an error on it actually upload regardless of the error?
  • Drag & drop multiple files of different files types such as images or .zip & .7z packages and see if the errors occur.
  • We were able to replicate an error when uplaoding 4 files at once, every other attempt.

Failing that could you confirm that you are running on a windows server & that you are using the steps I mentioned to upload files. As although we found an error it wasn't the same error that you have mentioned in your screenshot.

If you are able to link the issue to a specific file please can you send it to us via Dropbox or

Hi again,

I´ve tried to add multiples files as described and uploaded them. Same results as before.
Zip-files works and some rar-files.
They are not uploaded "regardless the error" when I refresh the page.

I´ve uploaded one of the files not working here:
Could it be corrupt in some way? Could you please try to upload it on one of your pages to see if you can replicate the error that way?

Hi again,

No news about above question?
Do you need any more information?

Hi Joakim,

Thank you for providing us with the zip file to test and for giving us your system information. We have tested this, with the file you provided and we were able to succesfully upload it. Now that we can see, that you are using Ubuntu, we will try testing again, in an Ubuntu test environment, to try and reproduce this issue.

Kindest Regards,

Hi Joakim,

We're run some more tests and can't forsee any issues linked to Ubuntu, however we do now have some fixes related to the Upload process which we will include in an upcoming release of the Ark Media. When this version is available we will let you know so that we can confim whether this resolves your current issue.
